Amanda and Sherry work for the law office of Mitchell & Stone as legal secretaries.  The receptionist had quit two months before.  The secretaries struggled to complete their own work as well as that of a receptionist.

Mr. Mitchell:        Have you finished that brief yet, Amanda?  I need it by 10:00 tomorrow morning.

Amanda:     I know, Mr. Mitchell, I'm trying.  But the phone keeps ringing and interrupting me.  If this keeps up, I'm not going to get it done.

Mr. Mitchell:        Can't you stay a little late tonight to finish it up?

Amanda:     Not tonight.  It's my father's birthday.

雅曼達與雪莉是「米契爾與史東法律事務所」的律師專屬秘書。公司裡的接待員兩個月前辭職了。兩位祕書除了要做自己的工作，還要辛苦地兼接待員的工作。

米契爾先生：雅曼達，那份案情摘要完成沒？我明天十點以前要。

雅曼達：我知道，米契爾先生，我正在努力。可是電話一直響，我的工作一直被打斷。如果繼續這樣下去，我永遠不可能完成。

米契爾先生：妳今天晚上能不能留晚一點把它完成？

雅曼達：今天晚上不行。今天是我爸爸生日。
